Lidl Connect roaming: where it works and what it includes

Lidl Connect includes roaming in the EU and EEA, the UK, Switzerland, Ukraine and Moldova at no extra cost: 50GB of data a month with unlimited calls and texts. Outside that zone there is no roaming at all. This page explains the limit, what happens when you reach it, Northern Ireland, the fair use check, and how calling abroad from Ireland differs from roaming.

Where does Lidl Connect roaming work?

In the EU and EEA, the UK, Switzerland, Ukraine and Moldova. 1GLOBAL's roaming information page, updated on 29 September 2026, says: "You can use your plan while travelling in the EU/EEA, Ukraine and Moldova, UK and Switzerland." The price list names each country. Roaming in that zone costs nothing extra; it is part of the €12.99 monthly price.

The EEA adds Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway to the EU countries. The UK is included even though it left the EU, which matters if you drive to Northern Ireland or fly to Britain.

1GLOBAL's page says satellite networks on ferries and flights are not covered, so a phone that picks up a ship's or plane's network can be charged by that network, not by your plan. Premium-rate numbers are blocked while roaming.

How much data can you use abroad on Lidl Connect?

50GB a month, with unlimited calls and texts. That is more roaming data than most Irish SIM-only plans at a similar price: GoMo and Clear Mobile include 23GB, 48 includes 20GB, and Three's SIM Core 35GB. Some dearer plans include more, such as Vodafone's Ultra bill pay plan at 80GB.

What happens when you reach 50GB abroad?

Your mobile data stops until your next billing month begins. The fair use policy says "data will stop until your next billing cycle begins" and lists out-of-bundle use as "Not available (no unexpected charges)". So you cannot run up a bill abroad, but you also cannot buy more roaming data. Calls and texts carry on.

Your billing month runs from the day you activated, not from the first of the month, so the 50GB resets on that date. WiFi abroad does not count towards it.

Can you use Lidl Connect in Northern Ireland and the UK?

Yes. The UK is inside Lidl Connect's roaming zone, so Northern Ireland, Britain and the border area are covered: 50GB of data and unlimited calls and texts, with no charge. Calls and texts to UK numbers from Ireland are also unlimited, according to the fair use policy. Turn Data Roaming on in your phone.

Near the border your phone can pick up a Northern Irish network while you are still in the Republic. If that happens, the data you use may count towards your 50GB roaming allowance rather than your unlimited Irish data. If your phone lets you choose a network manually, picking eir keeps you on the Irish network wherever eir has a signal.

Can you use Lidl Connect outside Europe?

No. The fair use policy says: "Roaming outside the EU/EEA, Ukraine and Moldova, UK and Switzerland is not available." In the US, Canada, Asia, Africa or Australia your Lidl Connect SIM will not connect at all. For those trips you need WiFi, a local SIM or a travel eSIM bought separately.

This is a real difference from some providers that sell roaming add-ons for the rest of the world. It also applies to cruise ships and planes, whose satellite networks are not covered.

What is the Lidl Connect roaming fair use check?

Roaming is meant for travel, not for living abroad on an Irish SIM. 1GLOBAL compares your use abroad with your use in Ireland "over a 4-month observation period". If you spend most of your time and data abroad, it can ask about your residence. This follows the EU's roam-like-at-home rules.

Most holidaymakers and business travellers never meet this check. People who live mainly outside Ireland, or who use the SIM almost only abroad, should read the fair use policy before relying on Lidl Connect.

Is calling abroad from Ireland the same as roaming?

No. Roaming is using your phone while you are abroad. Calling abroad means ringing a foreign number while you are in Ireland. Lidl Connect includes 100 minutes a month of calls from Ireland to listed countries, including the EU and EEA, Ukraine, Brazil, China, India and the US. Other international calls are not available.

The full list in the fair use policy: the EU and EEA, Ukraine, Brazil, Canada, China, India, New Zealand, Australia, the US, Switzerland, San Marino and Andorra. Lidl's page and launch coverage say "38 countries"; we list the destinations the policy names instead of a count.

Calls and texts to UK numbers from Ireland are part of the unlimited domestic allowance, not the 100 international minutes.
